Like a tea kettle, but this is a stainless steel pitcher with a lid and is used to heat liquids on the stove or to store or serve cold beverages as well. Great for pouring coffee, tea, water, or any hot or cold beverage. Very unusual and unique piece. Resembles the old-fashioned electric coffee percolaters, but this is a non-electrical item.
